SAIC Undergraduate Exhibition : Group Show

From March 14-27 my work, alongside my fellow peers, will be exhibited in the Sullivan Galleries located on State street. The work is open to the public and encapsulates the explorations graduating SAIC students have navigated throughout their four years at SAIC. Personally, over the last four years, I have been focused in the art therapy and art education programs. Medium wise I have remained mixed media though have found a love for ceramics and poetry writing. The work of mine that will be exhibited at the Sullivan Galleries aims to merge my visual art and writing practice. below is a link to the show as well as a description of my work that will be exhibited.

Vessel , 2020

handmade porcelain, wire, paper-mache, chiffon,  four years of writing, including diary entries, early drafts and finalized poems

This work is a commentary on how I define our understanding of a vessel, bringing light to the interpretation that a body can be considered a vessel and, so can words. This installation project merges a writing and visual art practice, symbolic of the reflection of four years’ time. Each vessel represents one of the four years and the events that anchor each year. As a whole, they express an exploration of the pain, resentment and eventual fulfillment of fighting for the sovereignty of one's body. They aim to reveal the power of words, their complexities and how they go unnoticed. We forget the weight our bodies carry, not only physically but emotionally. We forget the weight words carry; the words we say to one another and the words we say to ourselves. Each vessel is paired with a poem. All four poems are compiled into the form of a zine. Copies of the zine are located on the floor, scattered around the work. These are to be taken by the viewer, if they so choose, and read as a reminder of the parallels and proportions between suffering and growth.
