WHAT STARTED IT ALL….

Alivia Moe is an interdisciplinary artist, published poet, and designer. They graduated from The School Of The Art Institute Of Chicago and returned to Durham, NC in 2020. They finished their undergraduate degree with an installation titled “Vessel”. The installation explored defining the word “vessel”, bringing light to the interpretation that a vessel is anything that contains. The installation merged a writing and visual art practice; expressing an exploration of the pain, resentment, and eventual fulfillment of fighting for the autonomy and sovereignty of one's self and body. The purpose of the installation was to reveal the power of words, their complexities, and how they go unnoticed. We forget the weight our bodies carry physically and emotionally. We forget the weight words carry; the words we say to one another and ourselves. There are parallels and proportions between suffering and growth and in between the two are tools and habits we learn along the way to keep ourselves afloat. VESL STUDIOS is an extension, highlighting the importance of limitless self-expression, self-care, and design.
